If you’re looking for a really good quick and easy steak recipe, these Keto Garlic Butter Steak Bites are a winner. I used sirloin steak in this recipe which is best for pan-frying and is nice and tender.

These bites take just 10 minutes to make and are super low in carbs. I like to serve them with a nice low-carb salad, cauliflower mash, green beans, or why not try them in a good keto baguette with a generous dollop of mustard?

Ingredients

Garlic Butter

  • 4.5 tbsp salted butter softened, room temp (or 65g)
  • 2 cloves garlic minced

Steak Bites

  • 2 lbs sirloin steak or 900g/800g when trimmed
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper cracked or to taste
  • 1 tsp salt or to taste
  • 3 tbsp fresh parsley finely chopped

Instructions

  • Mix the garlic and softened butter together in a bowl.
  • Trim the excess fat off the steak and dice into 1.5 inch cubes. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Heat 2 tbsp of garlic butter in a large non-stick frying pan or cast iron skillet. Add the steak in a single layer. Cook on high till browned, approx. 2 minutes. Resist the urge to turn, turn only once browned.
  • Turn until all sides are browned or cooked through to your liking, approx. another 2 minutes. Work in batches in the pan, adding garlic butter each time. I did two batches.
  • Toss through the parsley to serve.
  • Serve hot with low-carb veggies, salad or cauliflower mash.
  • Storage: Can be stored in a Tupperware in the fridge for up to 2 days and reheated, but best fresh.

Keto Salisbury Steak with Onion gravy

Salisbury steak is an easy ground beef patty, similar to hamburger steak, but closer to a meatloaf, in that it usually includes bread crumbs, onions, and eggs. It is always served with brown gravy and topped over mashed potatoes. To make a low-carb Salisbury steak, we just need to swap out the filling ingredients for the patty as well as the gravy to make it keto-friendly.

This is served over a fantastic, creamy mashed cauliflower that my whole family, even the kids, love! The creamiest mashed cauliflower recipe can be found in my cookbook, Naturally Keto is the sides section.

What Is Glucomannan Powder?

You’ll notice for my gravy I opted to use glucomannan powder. If it’s an unfamiliar ingredient to you, let me explain why it’s such a great option for a warm, thick keto gravy. Glucomannan is a natural, water soluble, dietary fiber made from the root of the konjac plant. This fiber is the same ingredient used to make Miracle noodles or Shiritayaki noodles. It’s been used for a very long time in Japanese cooking as a thickener.

Before I discovered it, I was using xanthan gum as a thickener for my gravy, but it gets somewhat goopy and a bit to gel-like. Once I made the switch to glucomannan for gravy, I will never go back! It’s definitely a must in my keto kitchen!

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1/2 cup pork rinds finely ground
  • 1/4 cup parsley fresh
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp dried onion flakes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper

Onion Gravy

  • 2 tbsp avocado oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup onion sliced
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups beef bone broth
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp glucomannan powder

Instructions

Make the Steaks

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  • Combine all the steak ingredients in a bowl and mix to combine. Form into 6 large patties and place on a baking sheet pan.
  • Bake for 20 minutes.

Make the Gravy

  • Place the avocado oil and butter in a medium sized skillet and heat over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced onions and cook until soft and slightly browned.
  • Pour in the Worcestershire sauce and bone broth and bring to a simmer. Add salt and pepper then taste and adjust if needed.
  • Sprinkle in Glucomannan powder and continue to simmer on low heat and stir until gravy thickens, about 5 minutes. If it’s not thick enough for your liking, simply sprinkle in another 1/4 teaspoon and allow to simmer on low until it thickens.
  • Serve gravy over each steak on top of mashed cauliflower if desired.
